Castella school is a public school constituted by Preschool and Primary education with a single class per school year. Our strength lies in the multiculturalism. The main objective is to provide our students with strategies and knowledge to be responsible citizens, not only respectful with others but also with the environment. Concurrently, we take into account the importance to endow our students with social and personal skills to help them in the achievement of integration and lifelong formation throughout their lives.

Educating in values is the educational principle of the school, and it is based on the following main points: integration, pluralism, co-education, education for peace and tolerance. All in all, we promote equal opportunities through adequate attention to diversity.

​

We are located at Raval neighbourhood which belongs to Ciutat Vella district. This specific neighbourhood is an important touristic place not only for the wide offer services but also for cultural and artistic activities. All in all, we may say that we are surrounded by a rich cultural environment.

 

Castella School relies on Consorci d’Educació de Barcelona. Our school is classified as Centre de Màxima Complexitat (High Complexity Center). The Teaching boarding is composed of 21 teachers and nowadays, there are 217 students in our school.

The socioeconomic environment is featured by low middle class families which come from Central America, Philippines, Morocco and Pakistan.
Unfortunately, we have an increment of families with a disadvantage economic situation, for this reason they receive assistance from different services such as: Social Services, Red Cross, etc. The families feel one with the school showing respect and appreciation. Moreover, they trust in our institution. It is for this reason we promote their confidence by means of the participation in our daily life school proposals.

Recently, we have made the most important educational changes to the school, all the decisions are made after long discussions and taking these decisions as a team. In our opinion, if we do not believe in what we do we can neither improve ourselves nor our students. A plan of implementing sequential methodologies has been designed, where before every change happens, training is carried out to consolidate content and establish action agreements. We are now currently solidifying the tools and strategies, which are evaluated constantly in order to carry out these necessary changes and adjust how we work according to our needs and interests.

The school participates in five main projects in an active way. One of these projects is GEP. We receive from GEP training and guidance in order to increase our methodology. We strongly believe that English is one of the most important languages in both our present and future.
