REFLECTIONS

1. Why have we decided to do GEP training? And what has GEP training provided us?

First of all, we have always given great importance to English, not just because we consider languages are really important for our present and future, but also because there are lots of students who speak English in their homes. It’s for that reason we have been doing Science in English from 3rd grade to 6th grade for 4 years.

Thanks to GEP training we are now more implicated in CLIL as a team and all teachers’ team feels one with the project. So, we are trying to implement CLIL in more subjects like Art throughout all courses.

GEP training gave us ideas on how we can prepare our activities to make them more cooperative. It also provided us lots of resources focused on new technologies. We highly appreciate language sessions aimed to open up vocabulary we use with our students. The scaffolding language idea was really interesting and we will put it into practise for sure.

2.  Which benefits CLIL methodology provide our students?

Essentially, CLIL methodology enable our students to take advantage of the connections between language and specific subject-related content to improve the efficiency of pedagogy. It is also  a great method to promote positive attitudes towards language learning.

We would like to highlight the effectiveness to provide our students with tools to grow, acquire and activate cross-disciplinary skills by using a language different from their own.

In our school we highly appreciate and foster the cooperative and collaborative learning in our lessons and we consider that CLIL activities promote teamwork and encourage students to become key participants in the classroom.

“Feedback and motivation is at the heart of any language class. After all, errors are opportunities to teach and learn!” David Marsh.

3. What do we expect for the following courses?

This course has been an extremely useful training for us as CLIL teachers. We have learned a great deal of ready-to-apply strategies for our classrooms. Moreover; we have had the opportunity to implement some of those activities in class and they have proved to be amazing.

As teachers we are always looking for new resources to make our lessons more engaging and enjoyable for our students. Being presented with such an extensive and diverse range of teaching activities makes us more dynamic and efficient when implementing our lesson plans in class.

Discovering new didactic activities is what we really expect from a teacher’s training like this.
